A RESOLUTION establishing the City’s intention to provide technical assistance to the Central Area Motivation Program (CAMP) in order to allow CAMP to continue providing support to poor and disadvantaged persons in Seattle’s Central Area.
|
· Summary of the Legislation:
This legislation establishes the City’s intention to provide technical assistance to the Central Area Motivational Program (CAMP) through the non-profit capacity building and technical assistance program at the Human Services Department. The Mayor and Council intend for this assistance to enable CAMP to provide more effective and efficient services to poor and disadvantaged Seattle residents.
· Background: (Include brief description of the purpose and context of legislation and include record of previous legislation and funding history, if applicable):
During its 40 year tenure in Seattle, CAMP has at various times provided programs to address homelessness, employment and training for the unemployed, education for at-risk students, food for the hungry, and financial assistance for hundreds of needy families needing heat in the winter.
CAMP currently provides food bank services and assistance for income-eligible families and individuals in obtaining, conserving, and maintaining adequate energy resources.
The City has funded technical assistance and capacity building assistance to community-based non-profit organizations for a number of years, and funding is on-going through 2008.
