      The City operated the Firland Sanatorium, a hospital and rehabilitation facility for tuberculosis patients, starting in 1911. The facility, located in the north King County community of Richmond Highlands, was sold to King County in 1945. The facility was moved to a former Naval Hospital north of the current Seattle city limits in 1948, and was closed in 1971.
