The City's Urban Renewal Program, established to eradicate "blighted areas" of the city, was administered by an independent executive agency from 1957 until 1969, when it became a program of the Department of Community Development. Urban Renewal Program project areas included South Seattle, Yesler-Atlantic, and the Pike Place Market. The program was closed out in 1976 by Ordinance 106336.
